Hospice Volunteer Work

Instead of writing a essay or creating a power point that summarizes my work in the semester, instead we were asked to do volunteer work. We were given a list of organizations to contact and volunteer at. The main point of the assignment was to surround yourself in a completely new environment, like anthropologist does and take it all in. Most of my peers choose the homeless center, I choose to volunteer at 5 Star Home & Hospice. Why?  because I'm uncomfortable in the situation. My first initial thoughts was I was going to be surrounded by young people dying, and it was going to be the saddest thing I ever saw. However, most people in Hospice care are elderly. Adding, I thought death would come fast, but nope it did not out  of all the people I worked with they are still very much living. Sadly, they are in hospice care for a reason. At the end of my volunteer work it was the most rewarding thing I ever felt, as well as sad. Hospice care you make the patient feel happy and alive as they can be, it is the most unselfish thing a person can do, to be there in their time of need. Read more about it in my Outside The Classroom
